Hey y’all! It’s Erin here and I’m here to share with you our top 5 books that inspire us. These are what we refer to as Abbey Research bibles. These are books that have stuck with us, that keep us thinking and learning, and books we love to share with others.
To be honest, choosing 5 books for us is quite challenging. These are the 5 we talk about the most and recommend the most to others.
Dare to Lead by Brené Brown
This book is so powerful that we built a whole leadership course around it for college students. Brené’s slightly odd language aside, it’s definitely one that’s influenced our thinking on empathy-driven leadership over the last few years.
Invisible Women by Caroline Criado Perez
We can’t quite remember who we were before we read this seminal book on the gender data gap and all the ways it impacts our health and safety. Comprehensive, backed by SO MUCH data, and entertaining, we are forever recommending this book.
Quiet by Susan Cain
I read this book a few years ago. I learned so much about what it means to be an introvert. It has changed the way we teach and train. It has changed the way we work together and the way we do life together.
Burnout by Emily Nagoski and Amelia Nagoski
Kristen read this book a few years ago. It was a huge inspiration for our own book. It taught us so much about how the human body processes stress. We love the Nagoski sisters and thank them almost every day for the work they do.
Dopesick by Beth Macy
The stories told in Dopesick – both the book and the award winning TV series – changed both of our lives. We did not fully comprehend the opioid crisis in the US. Nor did I really understand the chemical imbalance behind addiction. It’s heartbreaking but necessary reading.
So that is our list of our top 5 books that inspire us. We’d love to hear what you think about the list and what your top inspiring books are.
